Sekondi High Court Nullifies Western Region House Of Chiefs Election




The Sekondi High Court here in the Western Region has ruled that the Western Regional House of Chiefs elections which elected Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, Paramount Chief of Wassa Akropong, as the President of the Regional House of Chiefs was unconstitutional.

The Electoral Commission and the Regional House of Chiefs have both been given ten (10) days by the court to conduct fresh elections and insert Awulae Amihere Kpainyinli’s name in the list of candidates contesting the Presidency.

The case was sent to court by Awulae Amihere Kainyinli, Paramount Chief of Eastern Nzema Traditional area after he was injuncted from participating in the election held in 2020.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, John Mercer argued in court that not allowing Awulae Amihere Kpainyinli to contest the House of Chiefs election is against his right as a person.
