Takoradi: Angry Staff of Holy Child College Rejects Principal

The academic staff of the Holy Child College of Education, Takoradi have faulted the University of Cape Coast and all stakeholders involved in the appointment of one Madam Victoria Ghunney as the next Principal of the college.

The Staff alleges that the newly appointed Principal is not qualified to hold such a person since she lacks the requisite qualifications needed to serve as a Principal.

At a press briefing Thursday, March 11, 2021, the Staff stated that their research shows that the appointed Principal only has an only masters which will not even qualify one to teach in a college.

“First in foremost, she does not possess a research postgraduate degree preferably the terminal, which is a Doctor of Philosophy degree as enshrined in the College of Education Act, 2012, Act 847 and as was advertised in the dailies.
“Our investigation has shown clearly that the appointee has just a one-year online non-researched MSc, a qualification which will not even allow her to teach as a College Tutor though the Council claims the appointee was a Senior Lecturer in a university,” stated Mr. Lawrence Ewusi-Mensah, Secretary to Convocation.

The Staff further hinted that Madam Ghunney does not have any administrative experience; a contravention to the Colleges of Education Act, and therefore it beats their understanding of how such a person can be named to head such an institution.

“The Act stipulates that an applicant to the enviable and respectable position of Principal should have rich administrative experience, which is the applicant should have held relevant senior management for at least five (5) years with proven leadership skills. From the Curriculum Vitae of the appointee selected by the Council, the appointee has not headed any senior management position before. So her appointment is in clear violation of the College states. Ii the few Committees she served, she was a mere member and she does not have any evidence to disprove what we are saying,” they stated.

The Academic Staff of the Holy Child College of Education, Sekondi, declared their intention to cooperate with any qualified Principal, but not an unqualified one as the one who is being forced on them.

“We are prepared to cooperate with any Principal who is legitimately appointed based on relevant academic qualification, proven academic and leadership credentials, and one whose appointment is based on competence, fairness, justice, and due process,” they averred.
