Takoradi: Taxi driver drowns at Whindo

A 23-year-old taxi driver has drowned in a river at Whindo, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana.

The victim, believed to have gone on a swimming expedition with his friends on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 drowned when the current of the river became too strong for him which pulled him farther away leading to his death. His friends only noticed his absence when they realised their number has reduced after they were done with the swimming.

His family reported the incident to the police and they came to the scene to pick up the body, which was later deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital at Sekondi.

The Assembly man of the Area in an interview,  made it known that, he heard about the incident and went to the house of the boy to check on the family to get more information about the accident. He also indicated that, the reason the boy drowned was due to activities of some men who have been taking sand from the river when it dries up. it has created many holes in the river which has made swimming uncomfortable and anyone can easily drown due to that.

he said, “This is not the first time such incident has happened, that very place the boy drowned, many people have drowned at that same spot. We will put out information to create awareness to stop people from swimming in the river”.
