WR: Armed robbers invade Tarkwa, brutalise business owners and make away with over GHS70,000

A gang of seven (7) armed men have invaded the town centre of Tarkwa-Nsuaem in the Western Region to rob a gold dealer and some Mobile Money merchants of the amount over GHS70,000 on Wednesday, August 4.

According to Mr. Ato Gyan, the Assemblyman in the area, the operation started at about 7 Pm when the seven armed men walked majestically without attracting much attention attacked the gold dealer who was standing in front of his shop.

He said, “The dealer was standing in front of his shop when the men approached him and pushed him inside the shop. He gave away his bag containing an amount of about GHS20,000 without hesitation whiles the robbers could not find any gold in the shop after a thorough search which was their main target.”

“The robbers then made up their mind to shoot him after confrontation but found a way to escape when he got the chance. This made the robbers to discover a Mobile Money merchants who was also in the shop which they want ahead to rob her of an amount of GHS50,000,”

According to Mr. Gyan, there were several other Mobile Money merchants in that area which most of them upon sighting the robbery fled but some were not lucky enough when the robbers caught up with them which they brutalised, vandalised their shops and robbed them as well.

However, the gold dealer is currently at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital in Takoradi after breaking a leg when he tried to outrun the robbers
