Collaborating With Secular Musician Is Not Sinful - Gospel Musician

In this era, it is quite common to see various musicians who do different genres join force to make good music and tickle our ear drums. It is, however, in very rare situations that there are music collaborations between a gospel artiste and an artiste who makes secular music.

Some of the successful collaborations are Daddy Lumba with Ampong, Herty Borngreat with Trigmatic and Sarkodie, Gifty Osei with Opanka, Nacee With Guru and most recently Yaw Sarpong with Sarkodie.

However, some Christians argue that Secular music is sinful, it has no place in the church and a Christian is not supposed to get themselves into any of such things that has a trace of the world and vanity in it and these collaborations could look like conforming to the ways of the world yet Takoradi based gospel musician cum Military Officer Kwabena Donkor says collaborating with secular musician is not sinful.

He made this assertion in an interview with ghanaprex.com "There is nothing wrong with it. What makes you think it’s sinful. For me it’s a perception. There is a place for the secular artistes in the church. There is a place of love, there is a place of fellowship, there is a place of acceptance, a place of protection for the secular artistes in the church”

He emphasized that many of these secular musicians have massive followers and by bringing them to the Lord’s presence, they might be influenced positively.

These guys have massive following. They are out there preaching in the name of love. They are talking about how beautiful life is, how beautiful the women God has blessed with are and all that and we the Christians claim to know the real identity and meaning of love so if we are able to accept these guys and bring them into the church with what they are doing and we preach the sermon to them, I believe when they go to the studio and they start writing their lyrics, a line of what their pastor said will click in their mind and inform how they write their lyrics”, he said.

The 'Shine On Me' hit maker continued "Gospel music is not the appearance of the person, gospel Music is not for the church folks only, I sing for the lost sheeps not those who are feed already
Dont judge anything by it's appearance but the content within"

I don’t understand why people tag secular Musicians as sinners and Gospel Musicians as Christians or righteous .
So if a person sings a song without God’s word in it he/she has not been touched? A real sad thought of life I believe.
For me there is nothing wrong with any particular style of music, the lyrics determines whether a song is acceptable for a Christian or not."

Meanwhile, Kwabena Donkor is presently working on a project titled 'Yahweh' along with BlaQ Mic a secular artiste.

The song produced by award winning sound engineer Jake of Hit Factory Studios is expected to be released before end of this month of April.
