Government’s appeal to the private sector for support in fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic continues to receive some positive feedback. The latest development in this regard, has Ghana’s telecommunication giant; MTN, through the MTN Foundation granting frontline health workers a significant relief so they could fell protected against the viral infection whiles discharging their duties.
In the Western Region, MTN Ghana Foundation has donated packs of N95 nose masks to two major health facilities in the capital; Sekondi-Takoradi. Beneficiary facilities, thus Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital and Essikado Government Hospital, received in total 3,000 and 2,700 pieces of N95 mask respectively.
Regional Senior Manager, South West Business for MTN Ghana, Prince Owusu Nyarko disclosed that the support lies within their commitment towards protecting and promoting a healthy community. He mentioned that the foundation has so far spent GHC5 million in procurement of PPE in addition to some PCR Machines to support the National COVID-19 Trust Fund, in managing the pandemic.
“We also presenting a total of 88,500 nose mask to 30 hospitals across the 16 regions of Ghana. And all these are as a result of the importance the foundation attached to these health facilities and also the support to fight against COVID-19,” he added.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Medical Director, Dr. Joseph Tambil said the support was very timely. He acknowledged that the MTN Ghana Foundation has remained a reliable partner in their quest of enhancing health delivery for the people.
“MTN Foundation has been one of our strong collaborators in the area of our work. They’ve been supporting us in many ways in the past and I am not surprised they doing same in this pandemic,” Dr. Tambil noted.
Dr Anane Frimpong, Medical Superintendent for Essikado Government hospital was also thankful for the gesture. He however prayed that other organisations emulate same.
