Eunice Buah wins bid as Western Region Rep On Council Of State



A 56-year-old businesswoman, Mrs. Eunice Jacqueline Buah has garnered twenty-four votes to win the election held by the electoral commission of Ghana to select the western Western Region’s representative on the Council of State.


Twenty-eight-member electoral college selected from the fourteen Municipalities and District Assemblies voted in the election which was held at the Western Region coordinating Council.


After the close of the polls, Mrs. Eunice Jacqueline Buah, who is the incumbent won the election. Her major contender, Nana Ntori-Bonyi Akomea secured four of the total valid votes cast. Western Region director of the electoral commission of Ghana, Mrs. Angelina Tagoe declared the results.


The election was first held on Friday, February 12, 2021. none of the contenders had the required majority to become the next council of state representative. the election ended in a tie between Nana Ntori-Bonkyi Akomea and Mrs. Eunice Jacqueline Buah where they both secured 14 votes each.


The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has satisfied his constitutional mandate by appointing Georgina Theodora Wood, a former Chief Justice, Lt. Gen. J.B. Danquah, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces, and Nana Owusu Nsiah, a former Inspector General of Police, to the Council.


The President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, is an ex-officio member of the Council, in furtherance of Article 89(2)(b).


The Council of State is to among other things counsel the President in the performance of his functions.
