Over 20 people arrested for not wearing nose masks at EKMA

More than twenty people have been arrested in the Efia Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region for failing to wear a nose mask as a preventive measure against the coronavirus pandemic.

The exercise falls within Executive Instrument E.164. The culprits were arrested from different locations within the municipality after they were spotted without nose masks in commercial vehicles.

As a punishment, the culprits were made to clean choked gutters in the municipality under the strict supervision of the special coronavirus task force formed for the operation.

The Efia-Kwesiminstim Municipality has been captured in a recent survey conducted by the Ghana Health Service as the area with less compliance to the coronavirus protocols.

Head of the task force, Mr. Henry Kwofie told Skyy Power FM that the exercise will continue in other parts of the municipality. According to him transport stations and market places are the major targets for the operation.

“We must ensure people within the Municipality comply with the laid down protocols. We cannot look on whilst our precious human resource is being lost to coronavirus. The cleaning of gutters as a punishment is enough and will compel others to wear the nose masks”. Mr. Henry Kwofie indicated.

He added that five other persons are in the grips of the Ghana Police Service for similar offenses.
