Out of a hundred tests of suspected Covid-19 blood samples conducted every day at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, almost half of that number turns out to be positive, making the facility one of the highest testing centers in the Western Region.
Medical Director at the Hospital, Dr. Joseph Tambil disclosed this when Takoradi Gas Company Limited donated 16 automatic oxygen delivery systems and sanitary materials to the hospital.
“We test every day and people are getting the disease because out of a hundred people we test every day, almost half of the number test positive”. Dr. Joseph Tambil noted in an interview.
The donation, which took place at the regional isolation center in Takoradi, was in response to the hospital’s request for oxygen from the company for patients with critical COVID-19 complications.
The Medical Director was extremely grateful to TGCL for the donation, describing it as timely. He says the intervention will drastically reduce the cost they incur in getting oxygen for patients at the center.
“All COVID-19 patients who are in critical condition in the region are brought here and it should be of importance to everybody. With this gesture, our expenditure on COVID-19 patients here at the center will be drastically reduced, and I thank Takoradi Gas for responding to our call,” Dr. Tambil told the media.
Human Resource Officer of Takoradi Gas Company Limited, Frederick Amakye, on his part, said the company values the lives of people and will do everything to impact those who need help.
He added, that the company has resolved to refill the cylinders with oxygen anytime it runs out which will be their small way of contributing to saving lives.
“We all know the negative impact COVID has had on all of us and as a accompany we want to be part of government efforts to reduce the spread of the dreaded disease to the barest minimum and we will continue to assist this facility,” he assured
