Former NDC parliamentary candidate Grace Ayensu Danquah wants investigation into mysterious death of fishes

It was reported on Sunday, April 4, 2021 that about 50 to 60 dolphins have been washed up on the shores of Brewire in the Upper Axim Traditional area in the Western Region.

Most the sea creatures washed up were either dead or struggling for their lives with no chance of surviving. It seemed something really must have gone wrong in the waters which has cause such a large number of dolphins to die at that very Instant.

Also, this incident follows a similar situation on Friday, April 2, 2021, when different species of fish were spotted on the coast lines of Osu and Keta dead with no reasonable cause for it.

However, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, the former NDC parliamentary candidate for Essikado wants the fisheries minister to look into activities of the Chinese vessels sponsored and protected by their local accomplices according to her Facebook post.

According to her, fisherfolks in her constituencies have witnessed bigger Chinese Vessels practice “Bottom Trawling” which is a method that they practically rake the bottom of the sea and destroy the ecosystem which deprives the fishes of Oxygen, the reason for the many dead fishes.

She also added that, “The fisherfolks have been complaining about this but nothing is being done. Pretty soon our fish stock will disappear and our ocean will be completely destroyed”.

“Dear fisheries minister perhaps you should look into the activities of the Chinese vessels sponsored and protected by their local accomplices.

According to the fisherfolks in my constituency (EKC) the big Chinese vessels are practicing “bottom trawling” meaning that they are practically raking the bottom of the ocean destroying the ecosystem and depriving the fish of oxygen (hence the dead dolphins) The fisherfolks have been complaining about this but nothing is being done. Pretty soon our fish stock will disappear and our ocean will be completely destroyed.
Thank you

Look into it and thank me later while you are fish farming in a reservoir.”

Moreover, the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the Fisheries Commission have commenced investigations to ascertain the facts leading to the death of the mammals.

Also, samples of the sea water have been collected from the beach in the Korle Klottey District in the Greater Accra Region to assist with the investigations
