Grammy Awards 2022: Angelique Kidjo Wins Best Global Music Album (WATCH)


Beninese singer-songwriter Angelique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo has been announced the winner of the prestigious Best Global Music Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

Held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas Angelique Kidjo beat competition from other greats including Rocky Dawuni with Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1., Daniel Ho & Friends with East West Players Presents: Daniel Ho & Friends Live in Concert, Wizkid with Made in Lagos: Deluxe Edition and Femi Kuti, Made Kuti with Legacy +.

Released on June 18, 2021, the Mother Nature Album is Angélique’s first album of original music in 7 years, following 2019’s Grammy-winning Celia, and her 2018 radical reimagining of Talking Heads’ landmark LP Remain In Light.

Mother Nature features Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi, Salif Keita, Burna Boy, Shungudzo, Zeynab, Lionel Loueke, Sampa The Great, Blue Lab Beats, Ghetto Boy, EARTHGANG, and -M-. Producers that worked on the album include Kel P (Burna Boy), James Poyser of The Roots, Vtek, Rexxie, Synematik, Blue Lab Beats, -M-, Brad Thomas Ackley, David Donatien and Dany Synthé.

She began writing it in 2019 and it was created over the past year in quarantine.

Angelique Kidjo is currently a 4 time Grammy Award-winner with 12 nominations.
