Ghanaian journalist and event organiser Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum has concluded her singing marathon Guinness World Record attempt, lasting an astonishing 126 hours and 52 minutes.
The decision to conclude the effort was made on the advice of her team, led by Dr. Grace Buckman, citing fatigue as the primary reason.
As she awaits verification from Guinness World Record judges, her extraordinary attempt has already surpassed the existing record for the longest sing-a-thon, previously set by India’s Sunil Waghmare in 2012.
The marathon, which began at midnight on Wednesday, 24 December 2023, concluded on the morning of Friday, 29 December 2023.
Addressing her supporters after receiving necessary medical attention behind a screen onstage, Ms Aduonum shared her experience of losing track of time during the five-day effort.
She expressed hope that her achievement would serve as inspiration for women and youth across the country.
Grateful for the unwavering support received from musicians, politicians, and security officials at the Akwaaba Village, Afua Asantewaa has scheduled an all-white thanksgiving event at 6 pm tonight at the same venue.
The event aims to celebrate the accomplishment and express gratitude to those who contributed to the success of the record-breaking singathon.
The entire nation now awaits official recognition of this remarkable achievement, which has not only broken records but has also served as a source of inspiration for the community and beyond.
