Okaikwei Central: Court orders collation of 31 outstanding results

Baba Sadiq, the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikwei Central Constituency, will, by Monday, January 6, 2025, know his fate on whether his earlier declaration will stand or not.

This was after the High Court in Accra ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate the 31 outstanding polling station results of Okaikwei Central Constituency and add the results to the already collated results and declare the winner.

This follows an application for Mandamus by Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent MP of the area.

Following the declaration which confirmed Baba Sadiq as the MP-elect, the Applicant contended that as of the time of declaration, 31 outstanding polling stations were yet to be collated.

He, therefore, urged the Court to Compel the EC to collate and declare the winner of the election.

Ruling on the Mandamus Application on Saturday, January 4, 2025, the Court upheld the Applicant’s request.

Consequently, the High Court presided over by Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, ordered the EC to collate the 31 outstanding polling stations and add to the earlier collated and declared results on or before January 6, 2025.

The Court has also ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide adequate security at all collation centres to ensure that the EC performs its public function.
