President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled his promise to initiate a Constitutional Review Process by establishing a Constitution Review Committee.
The eight-member committee, chaired by Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, comprises esteemed individuals with proven expertise and dedication to public service.
The committee’s mandate includes identifying gaps and challenges in previous constitutional review work, engaging stakeholders, and making recommendations to enhance democratic governance.
According to the President, the committee’s composition reflects his commitment to good governance and his desire to engage experts who can manage the process effectively.
“The composition of the Committee underscores the President’s desire to engage persons of proven expertise, dedication to the service of the nation and commitment to good governance, to manage the process,” Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Ag. Spokesperson to the President noted in a statement.
The committee is expected to present its recommendations for constitutional amendments within five months.
The review process aims to address the gaps and challenges in the implementation of the 1992 Constitution, building upon the work of the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.
Other members of the committee include Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, Dr. Esi Ansah, and Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya, who will serve as the Secretary.
