‘I’ll convince my party leadership to consider an alliance with UP Plus’ – GCPP General Secretary



Citizen Ato Dadzie, General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has thrown his weight behind Alan Kyerematen’s newly formed United Party (UP Plus), declaring it the party to watch come 2028.

He has expressed his intentions to resign from his esteemed position as GCPP General Secretary to join UP Plus, signaling a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape.

Ato Dadzie, speaking on a political talk show on Accra-based Kessben FM Wednesday, October 22, 2025, he noted that he will not just resign as General Secretary, but will also admonish his colleagues to join him form the alliance with UP Plus.

“I won’t resign as GCPP General Secretary just to join United Party but I’ll work to convince my party leadership to consider an alliance with them for the 2028 elections,” he stated.

Its Monarch Butterfly logo, the leadership explaines, symbolises transformation, resilience, and endurance, with colours representing Ghana’s gold wealth, the Black Star of Africa, and purity.

Registered by Ghana’s Electoral Commission on October 3, 2025, UP Plus positions itself as a credible alternative to the dominant NPP and NDC, appealing to Ghanaians seeking change.
