Samini details what went wrong during GJA Awards performance

Reggae and Dancehall artiste Samini has explained the technical challenges that affected his performance at the recently concluded Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Samini revealed that he was not originally scheduled to perform and encountered problems with his stage monitors during his set.

“I originally was not billed to perform at that show. My friend is the current President of the GJA. I was out of town, and when I got back two days before the event, he called, so that’s why I went there,” he explained.

He added that despite the awkward situation, he did his best to manage the performance.

“To the performance bit, for a live performer, you should expect glitches here and there because it’s a live event. With this incident, my monitors on stage were off,” he said.

Samini noted that such technical issues are common for live performances and that he has faced similar situations before.

“This is not the first time I’ve been on stage where the stage monitors don’t work. Sometimes the platform allows you to communicate with the engineer through the mic. No matter how hard the place is or how harsh you might sound, you can say, ‘I beg you, fix my monitors before I continue,’” he stated.

He further explained that while the organisers had scheduled performances, technical glitches can happen, and artistes need to manage them professionally.

“I think the organisers did factor in performances because they had artists booked. Akwaboah was officially booked for the event,” Samini said.

Due to the faulty monitors, he had to end his performance tactfully. “You have to find a strategic way to exit nicely. Before leaving, I constructively said I would have done more if the monitors were working. I suggested meeting at the dinner, but I wasn’t even there for that. I had to find something to say so I could exit,” he concluded.
