Government to distribute three million birds to every constituency as part of ‘Nkoko Nkitinkitin’ initiative

The President, John Dramani Mahama has stated that every one of the 276 constituencies in Ghana will receive three million birds as part of the ‘Nkoko Nkitinkitin programme.

Speaking during the official launch of the initiative on November 13, 2025 in Kumasi, President Mahama announced that the programme aims at boosting Ghana’s poultry industry and reducing the dependence on imported chicken.

According to him, each household would receive 50 birds and participating farmers will receive chicks, feed, veterinary services, and access to structured markets to enhance production and profitability.

President Mahama emphasized the need to take pride in producing what Ghanaians eat, urging citizens to support local poultry production.

“When we go to the markets, let us not buy the foreign breed poultry but rather the one with Ghana colors on it”, he said stating that he intends to reverse the challenges the poultry industry has faced for years.

The ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ programme is part of Ghana’s broader Feed Ghana agenda, targeting food security and economic growth. The initiative prioritizes households with existing interest or capability in poultry keeping, ensuring the birds reach those who can effectively manage them.
