Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has expressed deep appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for recognising the value of Ghana’s creative sector and backing it with dedicated funding through the Film Fund and Creative Arts Fund.
The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, made the comments during her appearance on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, November 15, 2025, the Minister.
Asked how the 2026 budget allocations for the creative arts and film sectors would help her ministry, the minister said:
“Okay, so first of all, let me thank His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, for understanding what we as creatives bring to the table, and his passion and dedication to ensuring that we position our sector as a driving force, as an engine of development for our country.”
She also shared that while the 20 million Ghana cedis allocated for the creative arts fund and another 20 million for the film fund are welcome, she is more excited about steps to generate data that captures the sector’s contribution to the national economy.
“Interestingly, I was more excited about the fact that there are steps to ensure that we have data that tells exactly how much we contribute to the GDP of this country. When that is done, I think we’ll be better placed to demand and receive more attention than we have.”
The Ketu South explained that such data systems, including the tourism satellite account and efforts to operationalise UNESCO 2030 culture indicators, will enable the creative sector to advocate for even larger future allocations.
“With those things in place, with those figures and data in place, I’m sure that we can get even more than the 20 million that he’s talking about. So let’s put it all in context. I’m excited about the, as it is now, the 40 million for the ministry, right? That’s in the budget. But I’m more excited about the other steps being taken, which will ensure that we are able to go and fight more for the sector.”
Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie’s comments underline the government’s recognition of the creative sector as a key contributor to Ghana’s development, and highlight the focus on leveraging data to strengthen the sector’s future funding and growth.
