Fifty-four persons living with disabilities in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region have received over GH¢200,000 in support from the District Assembly Common Fund.
During the handing over of the support, which was provided as start-up assistance, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Effia-Kwesimintsim, Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam Dokurgustart, explained that this support is their rightful entitlement from the common fund.
He stated that the assistance aims to help individuals with disabilities engage in economic activities to improve their livelihoods.
“Each recipient made specific requests that they believe will aid them in their economic ventures. Everything you see here, from fridges to provisions and cash support, aligns with what each person requested,” he said.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) is seeking partnerships with Takoradi Technical University and the Takoradi Technical Institute to provide training for those interested in acquiring formal skills.
“Moving forward, we plan to establish numerous collaborations with these institutions to facilitate training within the municipality,” he added.
