Solomon Owusu questions credibility of alleged assassination attempt on Special Prosecutor

Director of Communications for the Movement for Change, Mr. Solomon Owusu, says he is not convinced the alleged assassination attempt on the Special Prosecutor should be taken seriously, despite the Ministry of the Interior’s directive for an investigation.

Mr. Owusu questioned the credibility of the claim made by Mr. Sammy Appiah Darko, Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

He argued that the information presented so far lacks clarity and fails to justify public alarm, especially since key questions posed by journalists remain unanswered.

According to Mr. Owusu, the officer who made the allegation could not state when the supposed incident happened, whether it was reported to the police, or if any formal investigation had been initiated.

He described it as troubling that an official tasked with combating corruption would allege an attempt on his life yet fail to notify law enforcement.

He stressed that if an assassination attempt indeed occurred last year, the police should have been the first point of contact, noting that no report was filed.

Mr. Owusu added that issues of this nature require transparency, reminding public officials that their institutions are funded with national resources and therefore citizens deserve clear information.

He also raised concerns that the claim might be intended to divert attention from ongoing corruption-related discussions, recalling past unsubstantiated security allegations, including one involving former Minister Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor in 2010.

While acknowledging that the Ministry of the Interior has begun preliminary checks, Mr. Owusu said he believes the matter may ultimately amount to nothing.

“I believe investigations may show there’s nothing in it,” he remarked.

His comments follow the Interior Ministry’s directive for a probe into the alleged assassination attempt on the Special Prosecutor, as claimed by Mr. Appiah Darko during a recent television interview.
