Fear Grips Kwesimintsim Residents As The Rainy Season Sets In

As the rainy season is about setting in, many residents of the Western Region have expressed fear of possible floods occurring in their respective places of abode. Most of these residents said that, they are now living in fear.

Some residents in Kwesimintsim a community in the Effia Kwesimintsim Metropolitan Assembly who spoke to this Reporter, after last Wednesday’s downpour, said they fear their lives are in danger after the rains rendered some of them homeless.

The floodwaters entered about fifty (50) households in the Kwesimintsim ‘proper’ community and destroyed some household items in the process. The floods, which lasted for five (5) hours, left the resident stranded as they waited for the floodwaters to leave their homes before accessing them.

“Many of these residents stood in the water until they receded before they could do anything to salvage their belongings. The floodwaters were full of garbage,” one resident said.

“Poor drainage system plus poor waste management is the major cause of the flood last Wednesday. As the raining season is not over, our fate, and that of other residents are in our own hands,” another resident told us.
