Lawyer Martin Kpebu has said that he is unable to rely on the results of the Kpandai parliamentary election in the 2024 general election to analyze the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Matthew Nyindam.
Kpebu says per the court judgment, there was voter fraud, hence he is unable to rely on that result for the analysis.
“You attribute the numbers to voter fraud etc., once there is voter fraud, it is difficult to say he should win again. Things didn’t go well; laws were broken. So I am not able to rely on the 3,734 of votes he won as a basis to say he will win. So far from the judgment, laws were broken,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 13.
Kpebu’s comment comes after Pollster Mussa Dankwah said Matthew Nyindam is very popular on the grounds ahead of the rerun of the polls.
Mussa Dankwah indicated that past figures from the constituency show the popularity of Nyindam in the area.
“I think he is popular, Mathhew Nyindam is strong on the grounds,” he also said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 13.
Mussa Dankwah further said that the rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election is going to be fiercely contested by the two leading political parties.
He says they expect the polls to be very close.
“We expect the race to be very fierce; early indication shows that we are not going to be surprised as to how close this will be. It is going to be very close,” he said.
“The numbers are very tight,” he added.
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana announced a rerun of the Kpandai Constituency Parliamentary Election, scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
This decision followed a directive from the Tamale High Court, which on Monday, 24th November 2025, ordered a rerun of the election to be conducted within thirty (30) days.
The Commission’s action was further triggered by the receipt of a formal notification from the Clerk to Parliament on Tuesday, 9th December 2025, declaring the constituency’s parliamentary seat vacant.
In a press release, the EC stated that the rerun will be contested exclusively by the three candidates who participated in the original 2024 Parliamentary Election for the Kpandai Constituency.
